America’s no 1 Teleradiology Company Forays Into Telemedicine in Asia

Telemedicine fills a need for quality medical services in Asia.
Telerad Tech, the technology arm of Teleradiology Solutions, announced today that it has become the managed service provider for Cisco’s HealthPresence telemedicine platform in India.
Dr Sunita Maheshwari, a Pediatric Cardiologist and Chief dreamer of Teleradiology Solutions, helped operationalise a telemedicine center in a low income district in Raichur, North Karnataka using Cisco’s technology. Telemedicine consultations have been provided by Telerad RxDx doctors to the rural villages in Raichur like Gillesgur and Bichalle since October 2010. According to her, the use of technology is helping remote areas of Asia leapfrog into high tech health care. A shortage of doctors in rural areas and a need for specialist consultation is leading to a real need for telemedicine deployment in India.
In addition to rural telemedicine, HealthPresence could benefit companies as well. A telemedicine setup in a corporate setting could be a value add and a time saver for employees who no longer need to commute to see a doctor.
“There is a need for a telemedicine product with good video quality which works on low bandwidth and where the doctor can be anywhere”, says Mr Ricky Bedi, CEO of Telerad Tech who is managing the IT deployment of the telemedicine for Dr Maheshwari’s group. In traditional telemedicine setups the doctor needs to be at the telemedicine headquarter. In todays busy world, tying a doctor to a room becomes a challenge. In Cisco’s HealthPresence version 2.0, the doctor can be located anywhere and can access the ‘tele’ patient on his laptop using a wifi device. “Doctor anytime anywhere is a huge advantage of HealthPresence, which is why we are excited to be the managed service provider for Cisco in India and this part of the world”, adds Mr Ricky Bedi.

IRIA 2012 Updates

The 65th annual conference of Indian radiological and imaging association, held at the sprawling 70 acre HITEX Hyderabad international convention center from 28th to 31st January 2012 superceded all expectations as the organizers, under the able guidance of prof Kakarla Subba Rao, left no stone unturned to provide excellent infrastructure and ensured high caliber organization of scientific sessions, which included 4 speciality workshops, 6 big fight sessions, 6 orations, 5 film reading sessions, 2 symposia on radiology journalism and trauma-critical care radiology, 6 early morning Meet the professor sessions, an exhaustive spread at the scientific exhibition which included 150 conventional posters and more than 400 electronic posters, case of the day sessions, IRIA meets ESR and AOSR, apart from the 300 guest lectures and 280 proffered paper presentations plus 30 guest lectures on recent advances or future of radiology.........

IRIA 2012 saw conspicuous participation from Teleradiology solutions, be it the proffered paper section which saw presentations by 4 radiologists on the topics -
1. Utility of mobile device in the detection of intracranial hemorrhage - presented by Dr. Sridhar PG
2. Utility of mobile device and web-based teleradiology in the evaluation of chest CT for pulmonary thromboembolism - by Dr. Tobias
3. Comparison of tubal ring of pregnancy with the corpus luteum on transvaginal sonography by Dr. Chetana
4. MDCT evaluation of coronary arteries in patients with Tetralogy of Fallot by Dr. Jayadeepa.

Or the Poster presentations -
where Dr. Srikanth MS presented conventional poster on MRI evaluation of spectrum of ankle ligament injuries
and Dr. Tobias' electronic poster on Imaging of the peritoneal spaces

Making the splash, was the much-awaited Big fight face-off between our Dr.Arjun Kalyanpur and Dr. Gouthan Reddy. The debate was a treat to behold and especially heartening to see the radiology fraternity stand in full support for Dr.Kalyanpur upholding Cardiac CT than MRI in the Indian scenario for imaging the congenital heart diseases.
The specialty lecture delivered by Dr. Kalyanpur on the CT evaluation of pediatric cardiac CT also received wide acceptance.

The scientific exhibits section saw Teleradtech Tech stealing the limelight with Radspa inciting much interest amongst prospective clients and the idea of IPad - mobile Teleradiology not only grabbed many eyeballs but was also subject of curious interest for many radiologists who liked the idea of reporting-on-the-move.

The brainstorming sessions were followed by well-organized, thoroughly entertaining and scrumptious banquet/gala dinners which were also a great networking platform for all radiologists to catch up on old friends and make new ones at what one would go on to remember as an excellent conduct of a national conference, in a scale and size - that can be best summed up as  being true Hyderabadi Nawabi style.
